Fr. Liam P. McSweeney

Notice: Father Liam P. McSweeney, originally from Thurles and Gortnahoe, Co Tipperary, passed away on July 23, 2023, in Sacramento, California, USA. He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen McSweeney of Thurles, his father Edward McSweeney of Cork, his brother Pearse, his sisters Dympna and Maureen {Maher}, and his brother-in-law James Maher of Roscrea. Liam is survived by his sister Noreen of Dublin and his brother Patrick {Paddy} of Dolla, Co Tipperary, as well as his nephew Martin Maher, his wife Elaine, and his grandnieces Ráichéal, Aisling, and Grace Maher. He will be dearly missed by his cousins Maura Quinn and family of Holycross, Breda Minahin and family of Piltown, Willie and Marie Dunne of Gortnahoe, Richie and Mary Dunne of Gortnahoe, Richard Dunne and family of Dublin, and Josephine Mar and family of Australia. Liam will also be greatly missed by his numerous friends in both the United States and Ireland. Rest in peace.

Father Liam P. McSweeney, a beloved priest of the Diocese of Sacramento who celebrated his diamond jubilee this year, will be honored with a funeral mass on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 10 am in St. Mels Church, Fair Oaks, Sacramento, California. The rite of committal service will take place later that day at 2.30pm in Calvary Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Center in Citrus Heights, Sacramento. A vigil service and rosary will be held on Thursday, August 10th, at 6pm in St. Mels Church, Sacramento. The mass will be live-streamed on Friday, August 11th, at 6pm in Ireland via the provided link. A memorial mass will also be held in the Cathedral of the Assumption in Thurles, Co Tipperary, on Sunday, August 27th, at 11am to commemorate Liam and all his family and friends in Ireland.
