Notice: Jerry McSweeney of Ballinteer, Dublin, and formerly of Dillons Cross, Cork, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on June 17, 2023. He was a beloved father to Sharon and Donagh, and a loving son of the late Dan and recently deceased Ann. Jerry will be deeply missed by his heartbroken children, brothers Owen and Donal, sister Susanne, sister-in-law Carole, brother-in-law Fred, and his nieces and nephews, as well as his extended family, neighbors, and friends, including those from the TSC Open Water swimming group. Jerry was an active member of the MLSA and served on the National Executive, including as Chair of the industrial action subcommittee. He dedicated many years of his career to biochemistry at St Vincent’s Hospital, working as a medical scientist in the pathology directorate. The Department of Pathology SVUH and the officers and members of MLSA will particularly miss him, along with the Clinical Chemistry team, whom he had done so much for. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon, June 27th, at 2:30pm at the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome, Harold’s Cross. Jerry McSweeney, a resident of Ballinteer, Dublin, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home. Survived by his children Sharon and Donagh, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Dan and recently deceased Ann. He will be greatly missed by his devastated family, including his siblings Owen, Donal, and Susanne, as well as his sister-in-law Carole, brother-in-law Fred, nieces and nephews, and extended family, friends, and neighbors. Jerry was an esteemed member of the MLSA and had served on the National Executive. Notably, he chaired the industrial action subcommittee. His contributions to the field of biochemistry were commendable, as he worked as a medical scientist in the pathology directorate of St Vincent’s Hospital for many years. Both the Department of Pathology SVUH and the MLSA will deeply feel his loss, as will the Clinical Chemistry team. Jerry’s funeral service will be held on June 27th at the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome, Harold’s Cross, and will be viewable online via the provided link.
