Michael J Leahy

Notice: Michael J. Leahy Sr., commonly known as “Mickey,” passed away at the age of 89 on July 25, 2023. Born in Lixnaw, Co. Kerry, Ireland on October 12, 1933, he later immigrated to the United States in 1957 and settled in Bronx, NY. Afterward, he moved to Mahopac, NY in 1973. Michael had worked as a paper handler in the newspaper industry for Local 1, Paper Handlers and Straighteners in Manhattan before retiring.

In 1960, Michael married Agnes “Tina” Edwards at St. Nicholas Tolentine Church in Bronx, NY. Sadly, he is preceded in death by his wife Tina and his four siblings. He is survived by his five children, James, Michael, John, Pamela Nieto, and Vincent, along with his thirteen beloved grandchildren. Spending time with his loved ones, especially his children and grandchildren, was something that brought him much joy. Additionally, he cherished returning to Ireland whenever possible to be with family and friends.

Friends and family have the opportunity to pay their respects at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac from 1-5 pm on Sunday, July 30. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 31 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac, followed by interment at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Brewster.
